What we do

Criminal defence

Whether it is at a police station, Magistrates Court, Crown Court or a Court Martial, we apply the same level of expertise and care. Our clients are at the forefront of what we do.

Available 24/7

Police station advice and representation

We have a team of experts available to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Whether you, a friend or a loved one find yourself arrested or asked to attend a voluntary interview, you are entitled to free and independent legal advice. Ask for BTF Law and we will ensure one of our team will attend with you to ensure your legal rights are protected.

Should you require urgent advice or representation, call our emergency out of hours number on 07368 187441.

In court

Magistrates Court representation

All matters which are prosecuted are initially heard at a Magistrates Court. We will advise whether you qualify for legal aid, which will depend on your financial circumstances and the offence you face. If you are not eligible, we can provide you with a fixed fee quote to represent you.

In court

Crown Court representation

The Crown Court hears the most serious matters. If your case is sent to the Crown Court our expert team will ensure your case is thoroughly prepared and a Barrister of your choice is instructed. We work closely with a number of Barristers' chambers and therefore have a wealth of knowledge to ensure you are represented by a carefully selected Barrister. Alternatively, our Director Bekkie Freitas is our own in house Higher Court Advocate, who frequently appears at Crown Courts across the country and can provide a more personal level of service.

Legal aid may be available for your case, even if you were not eligible at the Magistrates Court.

Military cases

Court Martial representation

If something is a criminal offence in England and Wales, a serving member of the military can be tried at a Court Martial, regardless of where in the world the offence took place. If you have been arrested, or asked to attend a voluntary interview the police must conduct their interviews in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. This means you do not have to speak to the police until you have spoken to a solicitor and received proper legal advice. This right commences from the moment you are arrested.

If you are accused of minor offences, your commanding officer will deal with your case in a Summary Hearing. For serious accusations, your case will be dealt with by the Court Martial. You do not have the right to legal representation at a Summary Hearing. However, if you want your case to be heard, you can choose trial by Court Martial. You are entitled to legal representation at a Court Martial. Our solicitors have a wealth of experience in this area, attending military bases across the UK.

It is free to have one of our court martial solicitors attend your police interview. It does not matter where in the world you are serving. The Armed Forces Criminal Legal Aid Authority (AFCLAA) will cover the cost.

For court hearings, you may be entitled to legal aid paid for by the AFCLAA. There is a small possibility that you could be asked to contribute to the cost of your defence. In the event that you are not entitled to legal aid we can discuss funding options with you.
